Israeli Interracial Comedy Nevsu Wins International Emmy Award

Nevsu, meaning soul in Amharic, tells the story of a mixed Ethiopian - Ashkenazi family in Israel

 

Israeli interracial comedy series Nevsu took home the comedy award at the 46th International Emmy Awards Gala in New York City on Monday.

The Israeli sitcom was sold to the American FOX network in April.

Nevsu, meaning soul in Amharic, the official language of Ethiopia, tells the story of a mixed Ethiopian - Ashkenazi family navigating the prejudices and tensions involved in raising a biracial daughter and coping with their extended relatives on each side.

 

In the comedy category, Nevsu defeated the shows Mexico’s Club de Cuervos, Spain’s El Fin de la Comedia , and Workin' Moms from Canada. 44 nominees represented 20 countries across 11 categories in this year’s competition.
