AI: the End of the World as We Know it?
Sky’s Emma Lloyd and venture capitalist Eze Vidra discussed the future of media Thursday at Calcalist’s third Mind the Tech conference in London
Lloyd, who scouts for startup investments for the media giant, said the company is always looking to generate additional revenues from new services and products. Today Sky already uses machine vision as part of its supply chain, making the creation of metadata more efficient, she said. AI also enables Sky to provide better content for viewers, such as when sports commentators gain better access to data. Sky also uses AI technologies to manage teams on the field, she said.

Vidra said that globally, $6.9 billion were invested in AI in the past year, with Lloyd adding that a significant part of it went to Israeli startups. Currently, she said, Sky is focusing on smart home and automation technologies, but also on cybersecurity, and are especially looking for startups that can answer both needs at once. They are also looking into expanding their standing in exercise and digital health.
