3D Imaging Company Mantis Vision Buys U.S.-Based Alces

Mantis Vision announced a $55 million investment from Samsung and China’s Luenmei Quantum earlier this month

Israeli 3D imaging company Mantis Vision Ltd. acquired Park City, Utah-based depth sensing startup Alces Technology, Inc., Mantis announced Tuesday. The company did not disclose the financial terms of the acquisition. A person familiar with the matter who spoke to Calcalist on condition of anonymity placed the deal in the ballpark of $10 million.

Alces develops 3D imaging technology products and has a patented high-resolution structured light depth capture technology. Alces’ Utah facilities will serve as Mantis’ U.S. research and development center, the company said.

Founded in 2005 and based in central Israel, Mantis Vision develops 3D scanning technologies used to instantly capture and share high-resolution 3D volumetric content for a wide range of applications, from facial recognition technologies to augmented reality applications.

Earlier this month, the company announced a $55 million investment from Samsung Catalyst Fund, Chinese company Luenmei Quantum Co. Ltd., and a third, undisclosed investor. The company has raised $83 million to date. Mantis also announced a Chinese joint venture with Luenmei Quantum, called Mantis Vision Technologies.
