India’s Mobile Network Company Jio Partners With Interactive Entertainment Startup

Jio will integrate the technologies of Tel Aviv-based Screenz into its existing broadcasting gamification system to allow broadcasters to design, create and launch real-time interactive engagement campaigns such as polls, quizzes, and votes during TV shows

Mumbai-headquartered mobile network company Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd., also known as Jio, has signed an exclusive partnership for the Indian market with Tel Aviv-headquartered interactive entertainment startup Screenz Cross Media Ltd., the companies announced on Tuesday.

As part of the partnership, Jio will integrate Screenz’s technologies into its existing broadcasting gamification system to allow broadcasters to design, create and launch real-time interactive engagement campaigns such as polls, quizzes, and votes during TV shows.

Founded in 2007, Jio provides 4G broadband services across India. It was acquired by Indian holding company Reliance Industries Ltd. in 2010 for $1.03 billion and has around 100,000 employees according to information from Seattle-based market research company Pitchbook Data inc.
Screenz, founded in 2012, develops a system that allows broadcasters and content providers to communicate directly with viewers by using adaptable audience engagement tools. The company lists ABC and Fox among its 30 clients and operates in 11 territories worldwide according to company data. With additional offices in London and New York, the company employs 13 people and has raised $5 million to date, according to Pitchbook.
