Cala Vera: A New Seafront Restaurant

A New Seafront Restaurant: Cala Vera Opens with a Menu Created by Chef Ohad Levi

A new dining and entertainment destination has opened at Tayo Beach in Bat Yam, bringing together the refined Vera restaurant and Cala beach bar. The menu, created by Chef Ohad Levi, focuses on Israeli-Mediterranean cuisine, in a venue designed around the connection between distinctive food, the sea, and the overall experience

Located directly on the waterfront at the southern end of the Tayo Beach promenade in Bat Yam, Cala Vera is a new, spacious destination centered around a Mediterranean restaurant with approximately 250 seats and a menu created by Chef Ohad Levi.
The restaurant's menu draws inspiration from Israeli-Mediterranean cuisine, placing fish, vegetables, and locally sourced ingredients at its heart. Chef Ohad Levi, one of the leading figures in southern Israel's culinary scene in recent years, was responsible for the culinary consulting and menu development during the establishment phase. About a year ago, Levi opened Lili restaurant in Eilat. Throughout his career, he has worked at some of Israel's most renowned restaurants, including Herbert Samuel, Catit, Social Club, and Cicchetti in Tel Aviv, before going on to lead MAMO restaurant in Eilat.

The menu Levi developed for Vera ranges from raw fish dishes to fish and vegetables prepared on the grill and in a Josper, a closed charcoal-fired grill oven that reaches exceptionally high temperatures, alongside sharing dishes served at the center of the table.
Highlights include sea fish sashimi with yuzu sauce, nectarine salsa, and red chili; a crispy fish cigar with cilantro and harissa, served with harissa and lemon aioli; a charcoal-grilled meagre skewer served with charred white corn salad, chili, lime, and fish sauce; and an entrecôte skewer with charred Magi tomato cream, fire-roasted vegetables, tahini, and French fries. A carefully curated beverage menu complements the restaurant's Mediterranean character.
Cala Vera is located on one of Israel's most beautiful beaches, and its connection to the sea extends well beyond the plate. The beach is visible from every corner of the venue and forms an integral part of the overall experience. The space features a clean, refined design, with natural materials and light tones that reflect the coastal surroundings, while the seating arrangement keeps the sea as a constant backdrop. As the sun sets and the restaurant fills with guests, the atmosphere shifts naturally, carrying the experience into the evening. The restaurant offers a carefully considered experience built around its menu, service, and direct connection to the sea.

Tayo Beach in Bat Yam is currently undergoing a significant culinary and design transformation. Vera restaurant, which is now opening, marks the first phase of this major project. This coming spring, it will be joined by Cala, a beach bar set to open directly on the sand. Together, the two venues are designed to create a destination that evolves throughout the day, transitioning naturally from a seaside dining experience to leisure and entertainment on the beach. The concept behind Cala Vera brings together cuisine, the beach, and entertainment in one destination, with each element offering its own distinct character.
According to Moshe Elia, one of the owners of Cala Vera: "When we first saw the beachfront location, we immediately knew we had a unique opportunity to create something special. We wanted to build a place that respects the sea and its surroundings, but doesn't rely on them alone. A place people would come to for the food, the service, and the atmosphere, and would want to return to again and again. It's exciting to see Cala Vera becoming what we had envisioned."
