"If you're building a frontier technology, then you don't have growth"
S Capital Founder and Managing Partner Aya Peterburg explains what investors are really looking for amid the AI boom.

“Things are changing dramatically every day,” said Aya Peterburg, Founder and Managing Partner at S Capital. From an investor’s perspective, Peterburg explains how “the AI is changing our world, it's changing our ground,” which is why her firm aims to “invest in strong entrepreneurs that are coming to change the world.” Additionally, when allocating capital in such a rapidly evolving market, Peterburg says her focus is "not necessarily massive growth as much as very strong entrepreneurs.” She reminds that “if you're building and researching a real technology and building a frontier technology, then you don't have growth.” At the end of the day, “it's a work of people,” says Peterburg.
Peterburg spoke with CTech’s Amy Shapiro during the Summer Cocktail event in Tel Aviv hosted by Fusion VC, which brought some of Israel's biggest and best venture investors.
Asked whether Israel will continue to maintain its competitive edge in its darling sectors, or whether they’re soon to be eclipsed by sectors like defense and deeptech, Peterburg stated that while “cyber is always a thing in Israel,” the landscape is developing. “We have a lot of soldiers coming out of the army and doing cyber initiatives,” she explained, “but in parallel we do see a lot of soldiers coming out of those cyber units but want[ing] to make a big difference [in] different areas.” Specifically, she highlighted the draw to “AI and AI infrastructure,” essentially the “underlying technologies” catalyzing “real changes in the world.”
