Uvision acquires Spear UAV as demand grows for new-generation battlefield drones

Spear’s sealed-canister VIPER technology extends Uvision’s reach across infantry, vehicle, and submarine platforms.

Uvision, a company operating in the field of unmanned aerial vehicles, has signed an agreement to acquire Spear UAV.
Spear UAV, which employs 68 people, was founded in 2017 by former Air Force pilot Lt. Col. (res.) Gadi Kuperman. Its leadership team includes veterans of the Ministry of Defense’s technology units and Israel’s defense industries. The company is led by CEO Yiftach Kleinman.

Spear UAV’s flagship system, the VIPER, is an encapsulated UAV stored in sealed canisters and launched like a munition rather than assembled like a kit. It can be carried by infantry, mounted in multiples on vehicles, and launched from submarines. The latter capability marked progress in a field that had seen little change for decades, positioning Spear as one of the most prominent players in Israel’s dronescape.
Founded in Israel in 2011, UVision, which employs 220 people, specializes in loitering aerial munition systems; a class of unmanned aerial solutions far removed from the quadcopters that often dominate public perception of UAVs.
The announcement of the acquisition was made at the UVID Dronetech conference.
Uvision previously held 30% of Spear UAV after leading the company’s $17 million fundraising round in 2022. Under the new agreement, Uvision is acquiring the remaining 70% of shares and will become the company’s sole owner.
