"I see some startups that... should go to new markets, but they're afraid to go to new markets," notes Tehila Levi-Lati, Partner at Sullivan & Worcester – a sponsor behind the ScaleUp House initiative by Calcalist and Showcase IL.
Speaking to CTech's Amy Shapiro at Sullivan's Annual Client event in Tel Aviv, Levi-Lati, who specializes in China and East Asia, explained that founders often shy away from these regions "because it looks to them like a black box or something... while they should because they actually can gain a lot of things from that." She continues: "China and East Asia are big markets, and you cannot ignore them. I think that companies that will ignore them, they will lose."
Further in terms of scale, Lev-Lati advised startups not to linger too long before seeking counsel, offering her perspective as a growth enabler. "A lot of time I tell my clients... they come late… after they did all the mistakes," she noted. Conversely, she adds, "when you come early and you have your mentor… you have the person that actually can guide you.”
