Israeli medtech company FIZE Medical raises $20 million to advance AI-guided ICU care
The Series B, co-led by Asahi Kasei Medical and Rapha Capital, will accelerate development of a platform designed to predict fluid-related risks in critically ill patients.
FIZE Medical has announced the first close of a $20 million Series B financing round, co-led by Japanese medical device company Asahi Kasei Medical and Rapha Capital Management. The financing comes two years after the company raised $14 million in its previous round. FIZE had previously raised a total of $30 million, bringing its total funding to $50 million if the full $20 million Series B target is reached. The financing coincides with the expansion of the Israeli company’s strategic relationship with Asahi Kasei Medical, which already serves as FIZE’s exclusive distributor in Japan and will now also distribute its product in Europe.
FIZE has developed a system for monitoring kidney function and managing fluid balance in critically ill patients hospitalized in intensive care units. Its FIZE kUO system provides real-time digital monitoring of urine output to support precision fluid management and early intervention. The company is also developing a next-generation platform, FIZE Optima, designed to use continuous physiological data to predict fluid-related risks and provide AI-guided clinical decision support.
Several hospitals in Israel, including Soroka and Beilinson, are already using FIZE’s system, while additional hospitals, including Sheba, are expected to implement it soon. In total, 60 intensive care beds in Israel are currently equipped with FIZE’s solution. The company says FIZE kUO is also commercially available in Japan, Europe and the U.S.
Approximately 50% of intensive care patients develop acute kidney injury (AKI) during their hospitalization, a condition associated with a mortality rate of more than 20%. Early detection of AKI can significantly reduce morbidity and mortality.
The newly raised capital will be used to accelerate development of FIZE Optima, which is designed to provide AI-driven prediction and treatment guidance, as well as to strengthen the company’s commercial activities in its leading markets. The expansion into Europe follows the launch of FIZE kUO in Japan, where Asahi Kasei Medical serves as the company’s exclusive distribution partner.
The investment also marks an expansion of Asahi Kasei Medical’s role beyond distribution and into FIZE’s fluid management technology. Asahi Kasei Medical specializes in blood treatment and purification devices and systems, including dialysis products.
FIZE began operations in 2019, although initial development had been underway since 2011 under the leadership of Noam Levine. The company is currently managed by Dror Zerem, who previously served as CEO of several companies, including Ophir Optronics and VisionMap, which was acquired by Rafael. FIZE employs 40 people.
