Against the backdrop of incoming European regulation, Josephine Ackerman, CMO and Head of Strategy and Private Clients at SCHUFA Holding, noted that the company sees regulation “always as an opportunity and not a threat.”
Speaking to CTech at Calcalist, CTech and Bank Leumi’s Mind The Tech conference in Berlin, she cited the company’s century-long presence and role as a “reliable partner” to clients navigating new rules. That approach also informs her broader view on how organizations can innovate under strict privacy and regulatory conditions. While she acknowledges the risk of innovation being “hampered or slowed down because people still need to interpret the regulations,” she argues that rigorous frameworks can ultimately strengthen technology design: “You can really learn from it to build better solutions from the scratch… and effectively create a USP around it.”
Despite the impact of AI on the wider financial services industry, Ackerman explained, “for us it's important currently to point out that our base score is not created based on AI. So we still rely on our proprietary database with objective and validated information that we get from our partners.” SCHUFA, she notes, continues to use “proven statistical methods” when developing its existing and next-generation scores. Ackerman adds that transparency and data integrity “are the core of what we do.”
