Meta-owned WhatsApp is suffering from a major disruption on Wednesday, with users of the messaging app from across the world reporting issues with both sending and receiving messages.

It is unclear what is causing the problems at this time, but according to Downdetector, which monitors problems with websites and apps, there have been over 80,000 reports over a short period regarding WhatsApp, indicating that the problem is widespread.
Other Meta services like Facebook, Instagram, and Threads seem to be working as normal as of now.
The WhatsApp outage comes several weeks after users of Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and Threads were locked out of their accounts for a couple of hours. That outage did not impact WhatsApp. The last major outage on WhatsApp was back in 2022 when the service was offline for two hours.
