Rafael subsidiary wins €330 million contract to equip NATO Leopard tanks with active defenses

EuroTrophy to supply Trophy systems for four European armies.

EuroTrophy GmbH, the German subsidiary of Israel’s defense group Rafael, has signed a €330 million contract with KNDS Deutschland to supply its Trophy active protection system (APS) for the Leopard 2 A8 main battle tank programs of Lithuania, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, and Croatia.
Under the agreement, EuroTrophy will deliver the Trophy APS along with spare parts, training courses, and logistical equipment intended to support the system throughout its operational life. The deal makes Trophy a standard component of the Leopard 2 A8 configuration across the participating countries, a move the company says is designed to ensure interoperability and commonality among their armored forces.

Active protection systems are designed to detect and intercept incoming anti-tank threats before impact, adding a layer of defense beyond traditional armor.
Trophy, originally developed by Rafael and deployed on Israel Defense Forces tanks, has been integrated on a range of Western armored platforms. According to the company, these include heavy main battle tanks such as the Leopard 2, Abrams M1, and Merkava IV, as well as lighter vehicles like the Boxer, Patria AMV, and Namer APC, alongside other wheeled and tracked infantry fighting vehicles.
EuroTrophy positions itself as the European hub for the Trophy system, operating from Germany and serving as the local provider for production, integration support, maintenance, and long-term sustainment. The company describes Trophy as the only European-made, combat-proven active protection system currently fielded by NATO forces.
