“The younger Japanese generations are attracted by Tel Aviv”

“We are flying twice a week and we hope to expand this in the near future to three times a week,” said Yarom Vadish, El Al VP Sales & Tourism, speaking to CTech at the Israel-Japan Conference in Tokyo

“Any direct flight between two countries or two cities makes the world much smaller, and it drives people to fly to these destinations, whether it is Israelis to Tokyo or Japanese to Tel Aviv,” said Yarom Vadish, El Al VP Sales & Tourism, speaking to CTech at the Israel-Japan Conference in Tokyo.
“Tokyo is one of our new destinations. We started it in March. We were supposed to open this route three years ago just as the pandemic broke out. So we had to cancel, but three years later here we are,” added Vadish. “We are very interested in Tokyo and doing very well. Our flights are quite full. We are flying twice a week and we hope to expand this in the near future to three times a week.”
Vadish believes that the direct flights will also help in increasing the business between Israel and Japan. “Both sides are very interested in the route. Israelis have been interested in Japan for a long time now and this gives them an easier way into Japan. The Japanese are learning about this new route and by expanding our tourism business, we believe that we will be able to drive more business into the country,” explained Vadish.
One of the main growth engines highlighted by Vadish was Japan’s younger generations. “We’ve noticed that the younger Japanese generations are looking to fly into Tel Aviv,” he said. “It seems that there is something in Tel Aviv that is similar to the nightlife in Tokyo and it attracts the young generation. We believe that there is a lot of potential there so we are working on a special fare from Tokyo to Tel Aviv for certain age groups in order to bring that business in.”
