LayerX raises $11M Series A extension as browser security becomes the new front line in enterprise defense

Extension-based platform offers alternative to traditional SSE and secure browsers.

In a market increasingly defined by the risks of generative AI, SaaS sprawl, and web-borne threats, Israeli cybersecurity company LayerX is betting that the browser—not the network—is the new battleground.
The Tel Aviv-based company announced it has raised an additional $11 million in an extension of its Series A round, bringing its total funding to $45 million. The new capital, led by Jump Capital with continued support from Glilot Capital Partners and Dell Technologies Capital, will be used to accelerate LayerX’s push to position itself as a leading force in the emerging category of Secure Enterprise Browser (SEB) solutions.

LayerX was founded in 2022 by Or Eshed, CEO, and David Weisbrot, CTO, who developed web attack and defense systems during their military service. In 2017, Eshed led the exposure of the largest attack campaign in history on the Chrome browser, which involved tens of millions of compromised browsers and even led to the capture and trial of the hackers.
Rather than replace users' browsers altogether—an approach taken by competitors like Island—LayerX installs as a lightweight extension on existing browsers such as Chrome, Edge, Safari and Firefox. The company’s technology protects organizations at the "last mile" of user activity, providing real-time controls for SaaS applications, GenAI tools, data leakage prevention, insider threat protection, and more.
"Enterprises today face a stark choice," said LayerX CEO and co-founder Or Eshed. "They can either pay an 'SSE tax'—accepting added complexity, latency and lost billable hours—or they can force users to rip-and-replace their existing browser with a 'work browser' that disrupts familiar workflows. Neither approach is realistic in modern organizations."
LayerX, Eshed argued, offers a third way: providing security guardrails at the user level without the friction or disruption caused by traditional Secure Service Edge (SSE) solutions or heavyweight browser replacements. LayerX has seen its workforce grow from 30 to 75 employees over the past year.
The company’s timing appears well-calculated. Gartner recently identified Secure Enterprise Browsers as a fast-growing cybersecurity category, with organizations looking for ways to secure an increasingly remote, SaaS-first workforce amid surging AI adoption.
