Under fire from Iran, Israeli tech keeps hiring

Despite the war and constant alarms, companies continue recruiting hundreds of engineers and AI specialists.

Two weeks into the war with Iran, Israeli high-tech companies continue to recruit hundreds of employees, even under fire. After several days of stagnation at the beginning of the war, candidates have resumed sending resumes and employers have continued their recruitment processes. “We see that candidates continue to send resumes even these days. We understand that for some people the continuation of the recruitment process provides certainty, time to disconnect from the news and get back to work,” says Nufar Zioni, HRBP at fintech company april.
Still, recruiting processes under fire require adaptation. “We had several interviews that were interrupted in the middle of coding tasks because of an alarm. After we left the protected spaces, we reconnected with the candidates and asked when it would be convenient to continue. Candidates also understand when we are late for an interview because of an alarm. We act with empathy, we are all in the same situation, but we do not assume we know what the other side is going through, and we act sensitively even in the event of a last-minute cancellation,” she says.

Gal Tanchelson, Senior VP of HR at Orca Security, admits that it is not easy for employers to maintain routine and continue recruiting during a war while children remain at home. “Interviews are often interrupted because of alarms, some people have been evacuated from their homes and others are in the reserves. Unfortunately, we have already grown accustomed to this reality and understand that it is part of the situation. At the same time, we believe it is important to maintain business continuity and a sense of stability for our employees, as well as for candidates and clients around the world,” she says.
Even before the war, the high-tech industry was facing far-reaching global changes, partly due to artificial intelligence and one of its products, vibe coding. These changes have affected the demand for workers, with the fields currently in demand, even during the war, concentrated in AI, cyber, and security.
“The most in-demand roles today are at the intersection of data, artificial intelligence, and cyber,” says Chaim Geron, co-CEO and founder of Infinity Labs R&D. According to him, the leading roles include AI researchers and GenAI developers, cyber researchers, and data engineers. The sectors leading recruitment for these roles include multinational high-tech companies, leading startups, fintech companies, defense-tech companies, semiconductor and medical device companies, and the defense establishment.
The war has increased the importance of these core roles, as demand for cyber researchers has grown in light of rising threats. In the fields of AI and data, companies are turning to AI solutions to streamline processes, reduce costs, and maintain business flexibility during challenging times. “The war has highlighted the need for accurate, data-based decision-making tools. The need for high-quality technology talent remains strong,” says Geron. “AI tools for writing code actually raise the bar for entering the market: they reduce the need for developers in basic coding roles but increase demand for experts who can design, lead, and manage complex AI solutions.”
