
Nofar Energy to invest €103 million in battery storage for two Romanian solar projects
The systems will have a combined capacity of 1.09 GWh and are expected to be completed alongside the solar projects in the third quarter of 2027.
Nofar Energy will build energy storage facilities alongside two of its solar projects in Romania, with a total investment of €103 million (approximately NIS 360 million at the current exchange rate). The renewable energy company has signed an agreement with an international supplier for the purchase, supply and commissioning of battery energy storage systems with an aggregate capacity of 1.09 GWh. The systems will be installed alongside the two solar projects and integrated into their operations.
Under the agreement, a storage system with a capacity of 650 MWh will be installed at the Valter Maracineanu project, which has a planned solar generation capacity of 178 MW. The procurement and installation cost of the storage system is estimated at €57 million.

At the Corbii Mari project, which has a planned solar generation capacity of 282 MW, Nofar will install a storage system with a capacity of 440 MWh at an estimated cost of €46 million.
Both solar projects are in advanced stages of construction, with completion scheduled for the third quarter of 2027. Delivery of the equipment for the storage systems is expected to begin during 2027.
In addition to the two projects currently under construction, Nofar began operating two other projects in Romania this year, while a third is ready for grid connection. The three projects have a combined capacity of 361 MW. For two of them, Nofar signed a memorandum of understanding in May to install co-located storage systems with an aggregate capacity of 860 MWh for €80 million, with construction scheduled for completion in early 2027.
As of the end of June, Nofar had solar projects in commercial operation with a combined capacity of 2.1 GW. Of this total, 772 MW were in the US, 346 MW in Israel and 315 MW in Italy. An additional 427 MW are held through Ellomay, in which Nofar owns a 75% stake.
The storage component of Nofar’s operational portfolio remains relatively limited, at 183 MWh as of the end of June. At the same time, the company has a 2.1 GW pipeline of solar projects that are either under construction or in pre-construction, alongside a storage pipeline of 10.7 GWh.
