In the latest round of the game of tag between Google and OpenAI, the veteran technology giant announced the launch of a new mobile device for the age of "generative artificial intelligence". At a conference held on Wednesday, Google announced that the company's flagship devices - Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, will be launched with a series of new capabilities, including a virtual assistant equipped with the capabilities of Bard, its generative chatbot. "We've worked closely with our research teams across Google to take their most advanced foundational models and distill them down to a version efficient enough to run on our flagship Pixel," said Rick Osterloh, Google's vice president of devices and services at the Made by Google conference.

Google's third-generation custom Tensor G3 chipset is at the heart of the devices and is designed to support the current line of upgrades. Most of the upgrades concern new capabilities in the field of photo and video editing, as well as summaries and transcriptions. Among other things, the company will implement the ability to increase and correct images after zooming in, replacing pixels backed by artificial intelligence capabilities that will fill in the gaps and be an improvement to current products that often include visual distortions as a result of deleting pixels.
The company will also add capabilities to Magic Eraser, which already exists today on Google devices. The app will be upgraded and allow users to move or remove objects and people efficiently from images. The video editing tool is also being upgraded with improved tools to reduce background noise automatically. The system should be able to identify those noises that interfere with the audio quality and offer to delete them almost completely.
The cameras were even equipped with the Best Take capability, a mode in which several objects from other images can be replaced in one image. For example, in a group photo, replace the face of one of the participants with another photo of them taken in the same series of photos and create a new combined photo. Magic Editor is another new editing experience that, using artificial intelligence, will allow you to change the position and size of various objects. A new summary application will allow surfers to create a summary of a web page, read aloud and also translate other pages.
The device also has a temperature sensor on the back, which the company claims allows it to scan any object, such as whether your frying pan is hot enough to start cooking. Google indicated that they submitted a request to the American Food & Drug Administration (FDA) to allow the application to also measure body temperature and store it in the company's smart watch - the Fitbit.
