BeAir’s mission to provide safe drinking water for billions around the world

The company has raised a total of $632,000 for its system and is currently at a POC stage in Israel’s Negev desert

“BeAir was established by Joshua Lewis Colman (Founder and CTO), a scientist with more than 30 years of experience in the physical and medical device fields,” explained the company. “Joshua managed to harness his experience and come out with a potential solution for the biggest problems that prevent AWG technologies from becoming a viable solution for drinking water everywhere – adding a specific membrane that attract and screen only water vapor from the air, without the need to treat the water purity and a process that is held in a very efficient energy cost.”
Earlier this year, BeAir raised $275,000, bringing its total Pre-Seed funding to $632,000. It is currently at a POC stage and testing optimizing and data collecting in the Negev desert due to its dryness.

Company Name: BeAir Water & Air Technologies
Sector: Water, Desertech, Agri-water, Climtech
Product/Service description:
One in three people (2.2 billion people) worldwide lack access to safe drinking water where even that unbelievable number is expected to grow. In this reality, BeAir creates a solution, and generates pure water from the air effectively, providing it where reliable infrastructures or resources are lacking. BeAir uses a unique non-porous membrane that continuously extracts only the water vapor naturally held within the air, to process only the vapor molecules, condensing them out to harvest pure water.
Founder Bios:
Joshua Lewis Colman: A physicist working for over 30 years in Israel HighTech. After Hebrew U, became a System Engineer at Tammam, IAI, for the MOSP Payload at the initial design and prototype development stage. Continued to Oridion Medical (Now Medtronic), a medical device company for 12 years as Head of R & D, and later for 13 years, as Chief Scientist. Later, he spent two years as Chief Scientist at a successful IoT and environmental-based company, Ayyeka, becoming well acquainted with the water industry and environment. Inventor of over 100 U.S. patents in a wide range of fields including, Electro-Optics, Algorithms, Pneumatics, Medical Physics, and Applications.

How was the idea born?
BeAir was established by Joshua Lewis Colman (Founder and CTO), a scientist with more than 30 years of experience in the physical and medical device fields. Joshua managed to harness his experience and come out with a potential solution for the biggest problems that prevent AWG technologies from becoming a viable solution for drinking water everywhere – adding a specific membrane that attract and screen only water vapor from the air, without the need to treat the water purity and a process that is held in a very efficient energy cost.
What is the need for the product?
We address a few basic needs mostly in arid areas but not only:
  • Pure Water for emergency use in disaster areas, hospitals and/or involvement/rescue forces in those areas.
  • Industrial pure water for specific segments that require high-quality water in areas of water scarcity.
  • Potable drinking water where the public supply is in lack (could be in high-rise buildings, labs, universities, etc.)
Aeroponic agri-water that demands pure water and could be used at off-grid sites with minimal energy requirements.
How is it changing the market?
Our new method replaces bottled water or other sorts of supply, it allows the usage of water in an off-grid production and is essentially climate independent. The combination between low power consumption, climate independence and minimal water maintenance changes the water market.
How big is the market for the product and who are its main customers?
This is a rapidly growing market with 9% CGAR that is projected to meet $5.4 billion by 2028. As of 2022, the market size totaled USD $2.29 billion. This figure reflects consumer price and includes the entire value chain, including manufacturing and distribution costs. No firm controls the market, as the AWG market is still forming and fragmented.
Does the product exist already? If not - at what stage is it and when is it expected to hit the market?
We are currently at a POC stage – testing optimizing and data collecting in a severe environment in the Negev desert which is a dry area. We project that the first products would be available by August, 2024.
Who are the main competitors in this sector and how big are they?
According to the 2019 GVR - Grand View Research report - there were between 75 and 100 manufacturers in 2018. We estimate that today there are about 150 manufacturers, to which one should add those commercial entities that sell OEM products under their brand names. The most famous and market-present competitor is WaterGen which has various segments.
What is the added value that the founders bring to the company and the product? (Knowledge, experience, industry connections...)
Coming from the med-tech industry with more than 100 Patents on his name and over 32 years of experience in R&D and PMF, Joshua brings tremendous knowledge in this specific startup and in general. Ram has more than 24 years of service in the IAF in both commending and planning roles. After completing a Master's degree in Environmental Studies, he has the combination of management agility and experience with the precise knowledge for this kind of task.
What will the money coming in from the round be used for?
Personnel, Marketing, offices.
Most of it (45%) would be used for systems development in beta sites, optimization, and preparing cereal manufacturing. 25% is dedicated to IP Strengthening, 20% is to expanding use cases and market presence, and another 10% is dedicated to developing IoT-based control systems.

In the "Startup Boarding Pass" section, CTech will cover the (relatively) small investments made in companies during the early stages of their existence - and the entrepreneurs and startups who have not yet had the opportunity to reveal their stories to the world. Please use the linked form and fill it out according to the guidelines. This form is intended for startups raising between $500,000 and $3 million from venture capital funds, angels, or official grants from Israeli and foreign institutions. If relevant, someone at CTech will be in touch for follow-up questions.
