Vimeo begins winding down its Israeli operations after broad layoffs

The video platform is dismantling a development center built through over $200 million in acquisitions.

The video platform Vimeo is laying off most of its employees in Israel and is estimated to be preparing to shut down its local operations entirely. The company’s Israeli development activity is based on two acquisitions: Magisto, which Vimeo acquired in 2019 for approximately $200 million, and Wibbitz, a company specializing in the automated creation of videos from text.
At its peak, Vimeo employed around 120 people in Israel. Following the current round of layoffs, only a handful of employees are expected to remain.

Vimeo is an American technology company focused on professional video creation and distribution tools. In 2024, it moved into new offices at the Da Vinci Towers in Tel Aviv. Those offices later sustained significant damage during the war with Iran. Vimeo did not respond to a request for comment from Calcalist.
This is not the company’s first round of workforce reductions. In September 2025, Vimeo laid off roughly 25% of its Israeli staff as part of a broader global restructuring effort.
At the end of 2025, Vimeo was acquired by Italian technology group Bending Spoons for approximately $1.4 billion, after which it ceased trading on the stock exchange.
