Base44 milestone unlocks $38 million payout for founder Maor Shlomo

Deal structure reflects fast-scaling AI “vibe coding” trend, with Wix reporting that Base44 reached approximately $150 million in annual recurring revenue as of May.

Wix.com reported mixed first-quarter results on Wednesday, with steady revenue growth and accelerating artificial intelligence-driven bookings, but a wider-than-expected net loss and weaker-than-forecast earnings.
The Tel Aviv-based company posted a net loss of $57.5 million, or $1.02 per share, in the first quarter of 2026. On an adjusted basis, earnings came in at 68 cents per share, below analyst expectations of $1.21 per share, according to estimates surveyed by Zacks Investment Research. Wix shares plummeted following the results on the back of an already disappointing performance so far this year.

Revenue rose 14% year over year to $541.2 million, but also slightly missed Wall Street forecasts of $543.8 million.
Despite the earnings miss, Wix highlighted stronger underlying commercial momentum, particularly in its artificial intelligence-driven products. Total annual recurring revenue reached $1.903 billion at the end of the quarter, up 15% year over year.
A key driver of growth was Base44, the AI “vibe coding” platform acquired in 2025, which is increasingly being positioned as a central engine of Wix’s growth strategy. The company said new user cohort bookings increased approximately 46% year over year, supported by Base44’s integration into Wix’s product ecosystem.
Base44 has rapidly evolved from an acquisition into a core strategic asset. The platform, which allows users to build software through prompt-based interfaces rather than traditional coding, has contributed to Wix’s push into AI-native development tools. The company reported that Base44 reached approximately $150 million in annual recurring revenue as of May.
The company repurchased roughly 30% of its outstanding shares in early April through a tender program.
