Elbit secures $150 million in new European aircraft defense contracts
DIRCM systems to protect transport and high-value aircraft fleets.
Elbit Systems has secured new contracts worth approximately $150 million to supply its Directed Infrared Countermeasures (DIRCM) systems, extending the company’s footprint in Europe and underscoring growing demand for protection of high-value aircraft against evolving threats.
Under one contract, Elbit Systems will equip the aircraft fleet of a European country with its DIRCM technology, adding a defensive layer intended to protect sensitive airborne platforms. Additional orders cover the supply of DIRCM systems for the transport aircraft fleets of European NATO member countries, aimed at enhancing the survivability of strategic airlift missions.
The contracts add to a widening portfolio of agreements Elbit Systems has secured in Europe and globally for the protection of high-value aircraft fleets.
Elbit’s DIRCM technology is designed to counter man-portable air-defense systems, commonly known as MANPADS, a category of threats that has long posed risks to military and strategic transport aircraft. The company’s J-MUSIC DIRCM system integrates laser-based countermeasures with advanced imaging capabilities and is deployed on a range of military and commercial aircraft worldwide.
According to Elbit, the system is intended to provide aircraft crews with a defensive response to evolving infrared-guided threats, while allowing integration across different aircraft types.
“The continued trust the European and global community places in Elbit Systems’ DIRCM self-protection solutions reflects the company’s growing reputation as an innovative airborne defense technology provider,” said Oren Sabag, General Manager of Elbit Systems ISTAR & EW, adding that the systems offer protection for aircraft and personnel against advanced threats.
