Amdocs to lay off hundreds of employees amid GenAI division launch
New AI-focused division to bring product, engineering, strategy, and go-to-market teams together.
Amdocs announced on Monday the creation of a new division dedicated to implementing artificial intelligence across the company. Calcalist has learned that, alongside this launch, which the company has been developing for the past two years, Amdocs is preparing for another wave of layoffs.
According to estimates, the upcoming round will see hundreds of employees in Israel and worldwide let go. The new division, called GenAI & Data, is designed to consolidate the company’s AI initiatives and will bring together core functions in product, engineering, strategy, and go-to-market under one roof.
As of 2024, Amdocs employs roughly 29,000 people globally, including 5,000 in Israel. In recent years, the company has undergone multiple layoffs: in 2023, it cut about 2,700 positions in two rounds (12% in Israel). The first wave affected 700 employees (100 in Israel), while the second wave saw 2,000 more let go (200 in Israel). In 2024, Amdocs laid off an additional 1,500 employees.
The new division will be led by Ilan Sade, Senior Vice President and Division President.
“We established the new division with the strategic intention of making artificial intelligence an integral part of Amdocs’ DNA,” said Sade. “Our goal is to integrate GenAI capabilities into every product, service, and process, driving new growth for Amdocs and our customers. Our journey began two years ago, and now we are deepening our commitment and positioning ourselves as global market leaders in the field.”
In a company statement, Amdocs added: “Amdocs regularly adjusts its operations to align with opportunities and challenges in its business environment. As part of a strategic process we've been working on over the past two years, we recently announced the establishment of a dedicated GenAI & Data unit, aimed at leading this field for our customers and integrating the innovative technology into the core of the company.
“This transformation process, designed to strengthen our leadership in the global IT and telecom market, requires adjustments to our organizational structure and workforce. As a result, the company is currently examining steps intended to ensure its competitive capabilities and business efficiency, in order to best support growth in these new core areas.”
