X down: Cloudflare suffers major outage, triggering webwide access problems

The internet infrastructure giant says it is still assessing the scope and working on a fix.

UPDATE: Cloudflare has fully restored its services after an outage on Tuesday at the web-infrastructure company prevented thousands from accessing major internet platforms, including X and ChatGPT.
The company said the outage that began around 6.30 a.m. ET was caused by an automatically generated configuration file, designed to manage potential security threats.
A Cloudflare service outage is causing access problems and downtime for various websites, including X. The company said it is aware of the issue and is investigating.
Cloudflare provides content delivery and traffic management services to websites and online platforms. On Tuesday afternoon, the company began experiencing an outage that disrupted or affected several websites that rely on its services. Reports of downtime surfaced across platforms including X, the film-review site Letterboxd, and, ironically, Downdetector, the website that monitors outages and accessibility issues.

“Cloudflare is experiencing an internal service degradation. Some services may be intermittently impacted. We are focused on restoring service,” the company initially said
The company added in an update, shortly after 12:00 GMT, that it was continuing to investigate the issue.
The outage is the latest to hit internet services. Microsoft's Azure had also faced an issue last month, while disruption at Amazon AWS caused global turmoil among thousands of websites and some of the most popular apps, such as Snapchat and Reddit earlier in October.
