Iranian missile-hit Arad neighborhood to get 360 new homes

The plan will replace 161 damaged housing units with 360 new homes, alongside commercial space, public buildings and a new park. The state will provide a $19 million grant to ensure the project’s economic viability, as Arad and Dimona advance the first urban renewal plans for neighborhoods damaged during the war.

An urban renewal plan for a site in Arad struck by an Iranian missile during the war with Iran is set to receive its first hearing before the Committee for Priority Housing Areas. The plan calls for 360 new housing units to replace 161 existing units damaged during Operation Roaring Lion, alongside commercial space, public buildings and a new park. To ensure the project’s economic viability, the state will provide a grant of NIS 58.5 million ($19M).
The affected site, known as Tlalim, is located along Hebron Street, south of HaKana’im Street and north of Elazar Ben Yair Street. It covers approximately 15.5 dunams. The missile strike in the heart of the neighborhood severely damaged residential buildings. Following the enactment of legislation to support rehabilitation, Arad was included in the scope of the recovery effort.

The plan is being advanced by the Arad Municipality and the Government Authority for Urban Renewal. The new housing units will be built in two residential complexes, while the public space along Shimon Street, which connects the neighborhood to its public amenities, will be revitalized. The plan also includes commercial areas and active retail frontages along Hebron Street.
Arad and Dimona are the first cities with plans to reach this stage, following professional discussions with all relevant stakeholders. In Dimona, the plan concerns the Yoseftal complex, where 246 new housing units are planned to replace 92 damaged apartments.
In addition to these two sites, the state has designated other areas affected by the war for rehabilitation through urban renewal. These are located in Rehovot, Tel Aviv, Bat Yam and Ramat Gan.
