"A lot of things will move into space, including data centers and manufacturing"
Earth & Beyond Ventures General Partner Israel Biran explains why venture capital is looking less at pure software and more into sectors like deep tech, defense, and space.

“Israel was always very good in research related to deep tech, like material sciences, chemistry, and robotics... but VC investment was more on cyber and fintech,” said Israel Biran. “Now it's shifting because of defense, because of the rise of AI, where software is kind of less needed.”
Biran is the General Partner at Earth & Beyond Ventures, an early-stage, specialist VC fund with a focus on Israeli deep tech and space tech. He spoke with CTech’s Amy Shapiro during the Summer Cocktail event in Tel Aviv hosted by Fusion VC, which brought together some of the biggest and best of Israel’s venture investors.
As the AI revolution sees traditional software taking a back seat to more emerging sectors like defense, Biran notes that “investors are looking more into deep tech and these kinds of fields, like chemistry, energy, space, things that require more deep research.” Looking ahead at where new capital may flow over the next decade, Biran specifically highlighted the prospects of space tech as immensely promising. “Space is huge,” he noted, predicting that “a lot of things will move into space, including data centers in space and manufacturing in space. All these will be very exciting fields in the next five to 10 years.”
