Visa unveils Intelligent Commerce suite, opening payments network to AI developers

“Soon people will have AI agents browse, select, purchase and manage on their behalf,” says Visa Israel’s Country Manager, Gery Lasky.

Visa has announced the launch of Visa Intelligent Commerce at its annual Global Product Drop, introducing a new suite of tools that will allow developers and engineers to build AI-driven commerce. The move anticipates a future where consumers rely on AI agents to handle the shopping process on their behalf, from browsing to buying.
Visa Intelligent Commerce will enable these AI agents to transact (via AI platforms) using Visa credentials at participating merchant locations.

“Soon people will have AI agents browse, select, purchase and manage on their behalf,” explained Visa’s Israel manager, Gery Lasky. “These agents will need to be trusted with payments, not only by users, but by banks and sellers as well.”
“With Visa Intelligent Commerce, AI agents can find, shop and buy for consumers based on their pre-selected preferences,” Lasky continued.
The suite includes AI-Ready Cards, replacing card details with tokenized digital credentials and verifying the identity of a consumer’s chosen AI agent. It also introduces AI-Powered Personalization, allowing consumers to share spending and purchase insights with their agent to help improve shopping recommendations. Additionally, users can set spending limits and conditions to guide agent-led transactions.
“Historically, Visa has used AI to protect consumers,” said Visa CEO Ryan McInerney. “Now, we will also enable AI to empower consumers, fundamentally shifting digital commerce to make it more personal, more relevant and more delightful.”
Visa Intelligent Commerce is planned to launch via a European rollout later in 2025, as announced The Global Product Drop.
In order to support global adoption, Visa is working with a range of AI partners, including Anthropic, IBM, Microsoft, Mistral AI, OpenAI, Perplexity, Samsung and Stripe.
