Akamai alumni secure $20 million Series A for IO River to challenge single-provider reliance

The multi-CDN platform opens advanced infrastructure previously reserved for tech giants.

Israeli startup IO River, founded by former Akamai employees, has raised $20 million in a Series A round led by S Capital, Venture Guides, and New Era, with participation from private investors including Ofir Ehrlich, co-founder and CEO of Eon, and Pavel Gurvich, co-founder and CEO of Tenzai and formerly of Guardicore, which was sold to Akamai. The round brings the company’s total funding to $25 million.
IO River was founded in July 2022 by Edward Tsinovoi (CEO) and Michael Hakimi (CTO), with the goal of transforming the way digital content and services are delivered online. Today, most organizations rely on a single large provider, such as Cloudflare or Akamai, to deliver websites, videos, and applications quickly and securely. However, this dependence creates risk: if the provider experiences downtime, the entire service can be compromised.

IO River’s platform enables organizations to manage multiple CDN providers through a single interface, without operational complexity or sacrificing security and performance. This capability, previously available only to tech giants, is now accessible to any company. Additionally, IO River’s technology opens the market to new players, including smaller CDN providers and cybersecurity firms.
“Online services have always craved the benefits of multiple Edge networks without the operational pain,” said Edward Tsinovoi, Co-Founder and CEO of IO River. “IO River makes that possible. We’ve built a Multi-Edge platform that brings the architectural power once reserved for the enterprises of the world to everyone else.”
