Israel strikes targets in Iran as missile fired from Yemen triggers sirens across central Israel

Explosions reported in Tehran, Tabriz and Isfahan as regional tensions escalate sharply.

Israel carried out strikes against military targets in Iran overnight, opening a new phase in the rapidly escalating confrontation between the two countries, as a missile launched from Yemen toward Israel triggered air raid sirens across central Israel early Monday morning.
The IDF said the Israeli Air Force, acting on intelligence provided by Military Intelligence, struck military targets belonging to what it described as Iran’s “terror regime” in western and central Iran.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards confirmed the attacks, with the state-run IRNA news agency reporting that Israel had used ballistic missiles in the operation. Iranian media reported explosions in several cities, including Tehran, Tabriz and Isfahan. Iran’s state broadcaster also reported blasts in Tabriz and Isfahan, while Sabereen News, which is affiliated with pro-Iranian militias in Iraq, reported explosions in Karaj.
The strikes mark a significant escalation in direct military exchanges between Israel and Iran, coming just hours after Tehran launched approximately 10 missiles toward northern Israel on Sunday evening. Israeli officials said all of the missiles were intercepted.
While Israeli officials had assessed that Iran was seeking a limited and measured response, Jerusalem signaled that it would not allow the attack to go unanswered.
Following a security consultation led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, an Israeli official warned that Iran should not expect Israel to absorb the strike without consequences.
“The response will be harsh,” the official said. “We will not allow them to set any rules or violate our sovereignty.”
The latest developments suggest Israel has already begun implementing that policy, with strikes reaching deep into Iranian territory overnight.
The regional tensions were further underscored early Monday when a missile launched from Yemen toward Israel triggered sirens across the Gush Dan region, the Shephelah and Lachish. The IDF said the missile was successfully intercepted.
The broader security situation also raised concerns among Israel’s allies. Before the Israeli strikes, the Pentagon said it had indications of missiles or drones operating in Jordanian airspace. The U.S. Embassy in Jordan subsequently warned American citizens to remain near protected areas.
